a time to comfort

There is great distress when family and friends are unable to gather after a death. We miss the comfort of celebrating a loved life and sharing our grief. A Time to Comfort offers a way to be together in spirit while physically apart.

A short film

With your help we make a video about 20 minutes' long narrating the life of your loved one and sharing reflections, memories, and the sense of loss. We use interviews, photos, music and movie fragments (e g recorded on a phone). To see the film we made for Mary's family, follow the link.

Who are we?

Rev Robin Isherwood has 25 years' experience of comforting the bereaved and of conducting both religious and non-religious funerals.

Chris Hall is a professional video editor whose clients over the past 17 years have included the BBC, ITV, CH4, CNN and Discovery

How does it work?

Robin talks to the principal mourner face to face or on the phone. He learns about the person who has died and finds out how the family want to remember them. There may be texts to choose, and music. (Please note, the choice of music is limited by copyright.)

The family appoints someone to liaise with Robin - to send material and organise the distribution of the film.

We hope it will be possible for many people to watch the film at the same time on the same day, and afterwards to raise a glass and share memories.

Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when you impart information in writing or in conversation and when you send us photographs, visual and sound recordings.

What information do we collect?
A Time to Comfort is a small business making short films about people who have died. The distribution list for the finished film is decided by the person who commissions it (the client). The client, or their agent, supplies Robin Isherwood with personal information in the form of photographs, spoken or written anecdote, and sound and video recordings. We understand that being supplied with material constitutes consent to use it in the making of the film. The client may withdraw this consent through written or spoken instruction at any time up to the delivery of the film. Chris Hall edits and finishes the final product. We keep a record of clients’ name and contact details for use only in communicating with the client and for HMRC.

How will we use the information you have given us?
We use the data we collect from you in the construction of a video film you have commissioned from us, and for nothing else. The film is your property and we will not distribute it to a third party, in whole or in part, without your permission.

How long do we keep your data for?
Your data will be held in Robin Isherwood’s and Chris Hall’s personal computers, and the film in Google Store. Each of these locations is protected by password operated access. The material is kept for five years from the point of collection, at which point it is deleted.
